What is the Jackson Legacy Program?

In short, the Jackson Legacy Program is a plan formulated by the Jackson County Community Foundation to provide scholarships for qualifying Jackson County high school graduates. The program provides students from Jackson County who plan to attend Jackson County institutions of higher learning with the financial capability to further their education. The Jackson Legacy Program looks to ensure that Jackson has effective pre and post-secondary educational opportunities to create productive citizens committed to the area's future. Who is Eligible?

Qualifying, Jackson County high school graduates are eligible for the scholarship when used to enroll in a Jackson County institution of higher learning. Scholarship awards are dependent on the continuing availability of funds.

Legacy Program Details

Jackson has many young people who aspire to attend college but need support to achieve their dream. In lieu of a drastic increase in federal government loans over the past decade, the Jackson Legacy Program will provide $3,000 scholarships for Jackson County high school graduates commencing their post secondary education at Jackson County institutions of higher learning for the first two years of their schooling.

Conditions

If a student maintains the required grade point average while attending full time and performs 80 hours of verified community service within the calendar year, he or she may receive an additional scholarship award for year two of their education.

Schooling is not limited to a college or university. Technical certification or vocational training will also fall under the scholarship once specific programs are approved.

School districts and post-secondary instituitions must also meet certain conditions to be a Legacy partner.
