Schools Participating in the Jackson Legacy Program
To be a Legacy partner, participating schools must meet certain criteria that demonstrate their commitment to student success.
Participating Post-Secondary Partners
Legacy preferred post-secondary schools are committed to excellence in student performance and outcomes. Success measures are mutually agreed to, best practices are adopted, and results are achieved through a philosophy and practice of continuous improvement. Student success measures include:
- Retention from first semester and first year
- Course pass rate first year
- Freshman year transition course offering and completion
- Best practice in academic advising
- Program completion, graduation or transfer rate
Spring Arbor University
Spring Arbor University offers undergraduate and graduate studies to 4,000 students. The university offers more than 70 majors and programs of study and is recognized for its strong liberal arts curriculum and Christian atmosphere. Spring Arbor University awards a matching $3,000 scholarship to Legacy award recipients.
Jackson Community College
JCC has held continuous accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1933 and offers 48 different degree and certificate programs. It boasts an enrollment of nearly 10,000 students annually and focuses on preparing students for careers in high-demand fields through personal involvement, instruction and real-world learning.
Baker College
Baker College is a career college, featuring more than 140 career programs within its system and offers certifications, associate, bachelor, and master degree programs in business, nursing, education, interior design, architecture, and computer and internet technologies.
Participating School Districts
Legacy partner school districts are committed to student success. They promote a culture that encourages the pursuit of post-secondary education for all students. Partnering districts have agreed to:
- Be committed to providing the “five basics” of America's Promise.
- Comply with a policy developed in partnership with all districts. This includes specific steps to counteract student absenteeism with a goal of 90% consistent attendance.
- Develop and implement a plan to prepare for school readiness through pre-kindergarten and lower elementary programs
- Participate in selected and expected metrics that are consistent with current and future measures.
- Commit to a plan with local institutions of higher learning to decrease remediation rates prior to high school graduation.
- Assist students with understanding and implementing college and/or career preparation.
- Develop and implement transition plans from middle to high school and from high school to post-secondary education.
- Participate with Legacy staff in developing the infrastructure to support students in being ready to learn, including support from the human services community, use of 211, businesses, parents, and the community at large.
